WHAT IS A TELECOIL?
Did you know that your hearing aids have an antenna? Sort of.
The telecoil, a small wire coiled around a rod located inside your hearing aids, works as an antenna to pick up magnetic signals and streams them as sound into your hearing aids. With this “T-setting,” your hearing aids can stream the sound of a speaker’s voice or the music of the opera directly into your ears – without any pesky background noises.
What is a telecoil?
A telecoil is a small coil inside your hearing aids. The coil works as a small receiver which picks up signals from a loop system that acts as an electromagnetic field. Hearing aids with an activated telecoil can convert this electromagnetic field into a sound signal. Only the signal from the loop system’s microphone is amplified, and background noise is shut out. If your hearing aid has a telecoil, you can activate it via a “t-switch” on your hearing aids.
How does a telecoil work?
A telecoil acts as a sort of antenna for your ears. When you link this up with a sound system in a church or theater, you can get amplified sounds delivered directly into your hearing aids. So no matter where you are in the theater, you automatically have the best seat in the house.
Hearing aid microphones are designed to pick up all sounds, but once in a while it’s important to tune in to only one thing – like when you’re listening to a concert or sitting in a classroom. When combined with assistive listening devices like FM+DEX and SCOLA, telecoil systems stream the most important sound directly into your ears via your hearing aids.
Using a telecoil with a loop system can improve the sound quality in situations with a lot of background noise. They’re also good for when you’re sitting far away from the sound you want to hear – like in a church or lecture.
How do I turn on the telecoil in my hearing aid?
Most hearing aids models have a switch that gives you access to receive signals either from the hearing aid microphone or a loop system. It is called a “T switch.” Activating the T-setting switches off the microphone - so only signals transmitted from the loop system are audible.
In some situations it can be useful to receive signals via both telecoil and microphone – like when you want to hear the TV and surrounding sounds like your spouse´s voice. Many hearing aids therefore have an “MT” setting that allows for both the microphone and telecoil to be active.
Where can I use a telecoil system?
A telecoil can be used wherever a loop system is installed. When the telecoil function in a hearing aid is activated, sound sent through the loop system is amplified while background noise is shut out. Loop telecoil systems – also known as “hearing loops” or “audio induction loops” – are becoming more popular and can now be found in: Churches, Concert halls, Universities, Taxi cabs (London and New York City), Airports, Museums (for guided tours).

This is the second hearing amplifier of this style I have used. I find this one superior in many ways. The universal ear feature, fits either ear. is great and eliminates the need to search out the proper unit to fit the ear. The power switch is far superior to the open battery compartment. Because of their size , the same on all amplifiers, the controls, volume and tone are easy to use but I recommend the user spend some time using them against a constant sound to become familiar with their range. I found running water from a sink tap provides a constant sound. Finally to date, I found that the hearing amplifier is sturdy and well built and can handle a certain amount of abuse, dropping, etc without impairing their function. I would endorse their purchase by anyone with a hearing loss problem. They compare favorablywith much more expensive units.

When I saw this product I was wary. I was looking for my 95 year old mother who has age related hearing loss in her right ear. She didn't want it. I ordered it anyway thinking it might help before we went to the audiologist and paid 4000.00 for hearing aids. It arrived earlier than I expected, well packaged and in it's own nice case. It felt extremely solid and well made. The instructions are simple and I DO mean simple and easy to follow. I put it on my mom's ear on the lowest volume setting that was the default right out of the box. She was instantly amazed. She could hear me speaking in a normal voice even from another room which hadn't been possible in years but best of all she could hear clearly and at a normal volume her TV and her beloved music. I would love to send our thanks and appreciation to this company for making an affordable and wonderful product. I will be telling everyone I know and see about this product. Just to see her smile when I was talking in a normal voice and just to not watch my windows shake when she tried to watch TV is worth gold ;) Thank you again Britz.o...you are a winner!

These hearing aids are great. They adjusted to my hearing need very easily. AIl sounds are clear and when my wife speaks to me it is like hearing with a ear with normal hearing. Clear and I can hear her in a normal voice with out her hollering at me. These work as well as a high dollar set I purchased a number of years back that did not last long at all. Very pleased with these and long lasting charge they have. Cost for value is great. After wearing for a couple of days I don't realize I have them in my ears. Would recommend them to anyone with hearing loss and I am sure you will be pleased.I ama 78 year old and have good hearing again!
